Osaka's Dotonbori - Jefferson Graham
New York has Times Square, visitors to New Orleans make Bourbon Street a must stop and Las Vegas has the Strip.
To see wild, Japan nightlife at its gaudiest, you can visit Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, or, if on the other side of the country, in the Kansai region, the Dotonbori area of Osaka is a must stop.
According to the InsideOsaka website, the area is named for the Dotombori Canal that runs through the middle, where tourists can take boat rides underneath the flashing neon.
The area itself is a place to eat (crab and octopus seem to be the big specialty), shop (everything from Forever 21 to little gift stores) and be seen.
The Ebisu-bashi bridge itself is the prime selfie stop, where many folks make hand signs and silly faces to pose with neon characters behind them.
